May 2017: City Charter amended to allow an option of choosing a Board of Rights of 3 civilians or 2 command officers and 1 civilian to be implemented when the council adopts an ordinance.
June 2019: The City Council finally passed the ordinance required to allow officers the option of choosing 3 civilians for a Board of Rights.

6/4/18: Michel Ray Moore appointed chief of police.
2019
June 9, 2019 – Officer Esmeralda Ramirez was killed in the line of duty when she died from injuries received from a vehicle crash in 2015.
July 27, 2019 – Officer Juan Jose Diaz was killed in the line of duty when he was shot by vandalism suspects.
